Mark Hill, born on July 27, 1967, grew up in a small farming community in the southernmost part of Illinois. Raised in a musical family, it was apparent from an early age that he had a natural gift and exceptional ear for music.

He began playing piano at the age of five, picking out melodies from songs he heard in church. At age eleven, he discovered the bass guitar almost by chance and quickly realized it was his true passion. The bass soon became an extension of himself.

In his early years, Mark played on local recording sessions and traveled throughout the Midwest performing with his family. At 22, he joined Top 40 bands across the region to make a living, all while knowing his ultimate goal was to build a career as a session musician in Nashville.

In 1990, he made the four-hour move to Nashville and quickly earned a spot on producers' lists of up-and-coming bass players, securing numerous master recording sessions. Between studio work, he toured with artists including Steven Curtis Chapman, Martina McBride, Keith Urban (serving as bandleader), Reba McEntire, and Brooks & Dunn.

Since 1990, Mark has become one of Nashville's first-call session bassists, renowned for his signature Fender bass tone. He performs on more than 600 recording sessions each year and has earned 10 nominations for the Academy of Country Music Bass Player of the Year award, winning in 2022 and 2024. He has also been named to the MusicRow All-Star Musicians list twice, and recordings featuring his bass playing have amassed more than 13 billion streams.

His extensive recording credits include The Civil Wars, Kelly Clarkson, Reba McEntire, Brooks & Dunn, Michael Bublé, The Lone Bellow, Holly Williams, Brett Dennen, Carrie Underwood, Richard Marx, Hank Williams Jr., Toby Keith, Kenny Loggins, Montgomery Gentry, Eric Church, Luke Bryan, and Charlie Peacock, among many others.
